There is a type of therapy out there that we've been quite interested in. We started to incorporate products in our wellness line that carry this technology, the "infrared therapy". We've been hearing about this everywhere in the health and wellness world, but what is it exactly? Do we REALLY benefit of infrared therapy, or is it just a marketing gimmick?

Infrared waves were reportedly discovered by John Frederik William Herschel, in the year 1800. He made this discovery during his experiments on refraction of invisible rays using a prism. The ray with the highest temperature was the one after the color red. He named those “calorific rays.”

Infrared radiation (IR), also known as thermal radiation, is that band in the electromagnetic radiation spectrum with wavelengths above red visible light between 780 nm and 1 mm.

A PhD at the Cleveland Clinic, along with Jacuzzi® wellness expert team, performed a research on the technology and the benefits of Infrared therapy. This research outlined the amazing benefits of adding infrared therapy to their hot tubs. At the conclusion of this paper, Jacuzzi® began working with a development partner to identify the exact wavelength output requirements for the Near Infrared (NIR) in an underwater application.

In the new J-LX® collection, as well as in our infrared saunas and swim spas, while specialized deep Red Light reaches surface tissue and cells to ensure a long-lasting feeling of regeneration, NIR waves penetrate below the skin into the deeper muscle tissue specifically in the lower back area. Infrared and Red Light therapy work together, as their rejuvenating powers go deep beneath the skin’s surface to relieve pain and improve range of motion.

Pain relief is one of the key benefits delivered through Infrared therapy. It is particularly effective in the lower back region. Considering that many people suffer from chronic lower back pain, this is especially important. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), “an estimated 619 million people live worldwide with lower back pain, and it is the leading cause of disability worldwide.” The organization also reports that lower back pain has “the highest prevalence globally among musculoskeletal conditions; it is the condition where the greatest number of people may benefit from rehabilitation.” Furthermore, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports the “percentage of adults with back pain increased with age from 28.4% for those aged 18-29 and 35.2% for those aged 30-44 to 44.3% for those aged 45-65 and 45.6% for those aged 65 and over.” The statistics don’t end there. Chronic pain caused by arthritis and severe joint pain is an ongoing problem in the U.S. The CDC states that “one in four adults with arthritis—15 million people—report experiencing severe joint pain related to arthritis. Additionally, nearly half of adults with arthritis have persistent pain.” Knowing that lower back pain is a struggle for people across the globe, Jacuzzi® decided to focus solely on the lower back of the FX therapy seat. The application of Near Infrared (NIR) to the lower back muscles promotes healing with consistent use of the therapy.

You can be confident in using Infrared and Red Light therapy to enhance your relaxation, knowing this technology is founded in scientific research. The Infrared and Red Light technology used in Jacuzzi® hot tubs and other wellness products deliver preprogrammed therapy which takes the guesswork out of treatment. To ensure safety, Jacuzzi® has tested this product to the IEC 62471 Photobiological Safety Standard in both a wet and dry application. Infrared and Red Light cannot be used too much, so all applications are factory set with timers. Because its integrated design works in tandem with hydrotherapy, it’s easy and stress-free to use — all you have to do is relax and enjoy full-body rejuvenation and regeneration in your Jacuzzi® hot tub, and in your Jacuzzi® infrared sauna.

Jacuzzi® is the pioneer and leader in hydrotherapy. Always ahead of the industry and its competitors, it is the first and only brand to offer Infrared and Red Light therapy across a range of wellness products, from saunas, to swim spas, to hot tubs. Their unmatched patent pending therapy is available on the J-LX™ and J-400™ hot tub collections as well as the Jacuzzi® PowerPro® and PowerActive® Swim Spa Collections.

The IR and Red Light device has been tested both in a dry and submerged state by certified third-party Intertek® test laboratories. Testing was conducted for this device to the IEC 62471 Photobiological Safety of Light Standard. Results place this device in the Risk Group 0 (RG0) exempt category.

Customers often ask which material is most durable for outdoor furniture. Amongst our high-perfomance materials is teakwood, rated one of the best material for outdoor use.

What is teak?

Teak is a tropical hardwood that comes from the Tectona Grandis tree. Our NATURA furniture line feature teak that is sustainably sourced in Indonesia.

Our indonesian factory acknowledges that natures resources are limited. Our products are service-able: Regardless of age, we strive to provide clients with parts and components that are required to service a product in the event it requires repairs. Our partnered factory is FSC®, SVLK/FLEGT® and Amfori BSCI certified.

Are there different grades of teak?

Yes, teak is graded according to the part of the tree it's harvested from. Lower grade teak ( B - C - D) comes from the outter part of the tree, whereas grade A comes from the trunk's heartwood. Lower grade teak will have different shades and inconsistency in the color. It will also have more knots.

Our NATURA line is made of grade A teak, the best teak on the market. Heartwood teak is more durable, more consistent in color and has a honey color complexion. Our teak trees are a minimum of 70 years old, and our furniture is always made of the same tree batch for best in class color consistency.

Does teak requires maintenance?

Outdoor furniture exposed to the elements will endure the heat and humidity of summer, as well as the dryness and freezing temperatures of winter. Aside from the change in temperature, the seasonal extremes also involve the furniture being exposed to the UV radiation of the sun, rain, and snow. Therefore, the requirements for outdoor furniture are significantly greater than that of indoor furniture. Nevertheless, high-end teak furniture requires only a bare minimum in terms of maintenance. Depending on the environment the furniture is used in, we recommend that the furniture be cleaned with warm soapy water once or twice annually. Special teak care products may speed up the cleaning process, but are not required.

After many years of exposure to the elements, the surface of your furniture may become rough. Should you wish to smoothen the rough surfaces, then you can do so using sandpaper. You may choose to only sand parts of the furniture. The sanded area will gradually develop a silver grey patina again and blend in with the rest of the furniture.

For teak furniture exposed to the elements, we do not recommend the use of teak oil, paint or varnish. Teak oil, paint and varnish will break down in an uneven manner and may peel off in chunks, increasing the level of maintenance required, as the application of new teak oil, paint or varnish will require that the old layers be sanded off.

Will my furniture keep its golden honey color?

We recommend that you allow your teak furniture to weather naturally. Your furniture will gradually develop a soft silver-grey patina. It is only the surface of the teak wood that will change colour. Once you clean your furniture with soapy water, or a dedicated teak cleaning product, the furniture will return to its original golden-brown color. Applying soapy water with a scouring brush or an abrasive pad such as 3M Scotchbrite will speed up the cleaning process. Occasional cleaning will ensure your furniture develops an even silver-grey patina without dark spots.

How a Patio Can Help You Sell Your Home

A patio is a paved outdoor space that's typically located close to the main residence. It can be attached or kept separate from the home and you can also build some type of covering over it. Creating that outdoor space does more than present you with an opportunity to entertain. It can also be a key addition that makes your home significantly more appealing.

Enhance Versatility of Your Space

When you put up a listing for your home, you're not just selling the establishment itself. Prospective buyers will also check out the surrounding area to see if they can make good use of it. With a patio already onsite, your buyers won't have to imagine how they can make use of the available outdoor space. They can just look at your patio and visualize having dinner parties there. It can also be an additional lounging area whenever the weather permits. Your well-designed patio and quality patio furniture may be enough to put your listing over the top in the eyes of some buyers.

Increase Home Value

Properties that have a nice patio often reap the benefits when it comes time to sell your home. Patios have a solid return on investment. Making sure that your outdoor space is properly maintained and presented will give you an advantage when it hits the market. Adding additional features such as grills, ovens, and green walls will only help!

Keep Your Home Design Updated

According to Forbes, 48% of experts believe that a patio and porch combination will be the most popular outdoor living space setup in the coming years. If you want to keep your home's design updated, you should look into a patio if you don't have it already. Of course, if you have a patio already, furnishing it with updated and durable furniture is a must. Consider adding a hot tub as a unique feature as well.

Building a patio and outfitting it with carefully selected pieces of patio furniture can generate more interest in your property. You may be able to choose from a better selection of offers thanks to your decision to invest in a patio. Contact Luxe Outdoor Living today if you're looking for ways to make your patio stand out further!

Why Every Home Needs a Private Outdoor Space

Whether you want to shop at patio furniture stores to spruce up your outdoor space or purchase plants and flowers to add to the garden, having a private outdoor space can be incredibly beneficial. Not only is it a great way to add some personality to your home, but it can also provide you with a place of peace and tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Here are just a few of the many reasons every home should have a private outdoor space.

Enjoy Time at Home

According to Forbes, 85% of experts agree that homeowners are more willing to invest in outdoor living spaces now than before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country. Being under restrictions for so long during the pandemic has made people realize the importance of having a private outdoor space to enjoy time spent at home. Having a designated area outside can help you escape from any stressors that might be occurring inside and provide you with an opportunity to relax and unwind.

Create an Extra Gathering Place

By choosing furniture from patio furniture stores and installing a few plants and flowers, you can create an extra gathering place for family and friends. Designing your outdoor space with couches, chairs, tables or any other furniture pieces you prefer can provide you with the perfect setting to host dinner parties, hang out with friends, or even just enjoy time spent alone.

Connect With Nature

Having a private outdoor space is also great for connecting with nature. Taking the time to soak up some sun or enjoying the sound of a babbling brook are just a couple of the ways that you can benefit from having an outdoor space. Even if it's just a small yard, you can still create a peaceful environment that will help to foster your connection with the outdoors.

Improve Air Quality

Finally, having a private outdoor space is great for improving the air quality around your home. Plants and trees act as natural air filters. That being said, having an outdoor space is a great way to help purify the air and reduce pollutants near your home.

Having a private outdoor space is beneficial in more ways than one. Whether you're looking to create a place of relaxation or just want to enjoy the fresh air, having an outdoor space is a great way to improve your home and even your health. If you need ideas for your outdoor space and are looking for patio furniture stores near you, call Luxe Outdoor Living today!
